Lately I’ve be telling everyone not to panic over what Trump is saying in regards to DACA, the DREAMers and illegals in general. I’ve said not to place too much on what Trump says, but rather what he ends up doing.
But I have to say, it is difficult to do this time around. It’s difficult to dismiss, as this is not just Trump spouting off to some reporter. This is a written framework, written by the White House and released to Republican lawmakers. You may review it here, and I strongly suggest you do.
The White House Immigration “framework” proposal begins with the following:
The Department of Homeland Security must have the tools to deter illegal immigration; the ability to remove individuals who illegally enter the United States; and the vital authorities necessary to protect national security.
Wow. That sounds quite forceful, and comprehensive. And it is…comprehensive. Unfortunately, in Washington, comprehensive doesn’t mean what we think. To politicians, comprehensive is code for overly and purposely complicated, filled with loads of crap that detract from the President’s originally stated intent. That was, of course, to build a great wall along the entire Southern border and deport people here illegally. As illegal immigration is one of my “hot buttons,” it was one of the primary reasons I voted for him.
In the framework, the administration asks for $25 billion for a “border wall system, ports of entry/exit, and northern border improvements and enhancements.”
Well, excuse the vernacular, but screw the Northern border for now. How about we start and finish one project at a time. But that wouldn’t be comprehensive and it must be comprehensive you know. No it mustn’t. It should be simple, clear and easy to carry out.
Regarding “ports of entry/exit.” To my knowledge, we already have points of entry and exit. They just need to be linked to a wall. And what exactly is a “border wall system,” and how does it differ from a border wall? If the “system” is just a wall, why can’t they just say border wall? Answer: it must not be just a wall. Now, I’m not an engineer, but I know that anywhere you can install a fence or other barrier, you can place a wall. Heck, we cut highways and tunnels into and through mountains. Don’t tell me we can’t do the same with a wall. The Chinese built their wall starting in 771 B.C. for crying out loud.

The rest of the several “comprehensive” proposal items have to do with hiring a lot more people including attorneys, judges and prosecutors. To this, may I ask a question? Why the crap must we waste our resources on attorneys, judges and prosecutors? Why on Earth do we feel the need to “process” people here illegally through our legal system? Shouldn’t it be a simple matter of catching them, immediately turning them over to ICE, and ICE placing them on a bus headed South across the border? I’m sure it would be a lot cheaper to just purchase a fleet of buses, than thousands more public sector employees. Then they could be sold off when the wall was completed. The buses – not the employees.
Now for the amnesty portion of the framework. A path to citizenship for, “1.8 million DACA recipients and other DACA-eligible illegal immigrants.” In other words, DREAMers. Obama didn’t even have the nerve to propose something this outrageous. Is this what we voted for? No – no it’s not. And believe you me – if the government says it’s 1.8 million, you can double it.
The framework states a, “10-12 year path to citizenship, with requirements for work, education and good moral character.” Well that’s the opposite of the campaign promise. And may I ask another silly question? What army of bureaucrats will be charged with monitoring some 2-4 million people to ensure they work, become edumicated, and maintain “good moral character” for a decade or more? And who will determine what good moral character is? Do we even know anymore?
Chain migration will apparently be curtailed to immediate family, but not ended, and the Visa lottery will end – kind of. Instead of ending the lottery completely, the unused Visas will instead be used to push the immediate family members of the DREAMers through the system as quickly as possible, because we just can’t wait to have them.
And remember – this is just an opening volley – a starting point. Imagine how much worse it could get after it’s “negotiated.”
Color me disappointed and disillusioned.
