A town in western Michigan voted to defund its town library after its administrators refused to remove sexually explicit gay books from the shelves where kids could get them.

Voters in Jamestown Township in Michigan’s Ottawa county — which is near Grand Rapids — rejected a ballot measure that would renew a tax that supports its Patmos Library.

The failure of the tax measure removes 84 percent of the library’s operating budget for 2023.

Larry Walton, the woke library board president, said he was shocked that voters took his free money away from him.

“I wasn’t expecting anything like this. The library is the center of the community. For individuals to be short sighted to close that down over opposing LGBTQ is very disappointing,” Walton said, according to Bridge Michigan.

The vote to defund the library wasn’t close, either. The tax measure lost by a massive 62 to 37 percent margin. Quite a reversal from the 37 percent win the tax enjoyed the last time voters were asked to fund the library.

This year parents demanded that the library remove the sexually explicit gay graphic novel “Gender Queer: A Memoir” from the shelves. The library refused to eliminate the book, but did put it on display behind the counter so that only adults could request it.

But then local activists began finding a list of other radical LGBTQ books on the shelves in sections organized for kids. And library officials refused to move them.

From there, the local activists began campaigning against the library for exposing kids to books with explicit gay sex in them.
