On Sunday, Senator [score]Ted Cruz[/score] (R-TX) was campaigning in Indiana in an attempt to win the Hoosier vote in Tuesday’s primary. However, his efforts were interrupted by a young man standing in the crowd of onlookers who chose this moment to prove how remiss his parents had been in raising him. While Senator Cruz was speaking in La Porte, Indiana, a young man raised his voice as the Senator spoke yelling “You Suck!” at the conservative from Texas.

Cruz took the attack in stride and attempted to turn the situation into a teachable moment.

Apparently, there’s a young boy who’s having some problems,” the Republican presidential candidate said when his speech was interrupted by a rant Cruz appeared to not understand. That’s when the boy exclaimed, “You suck!”

Cruz paused, shook his head, then addressed his heckler directly. “Thank you, son,” he said. “You know, I appreciate you sharing your views. One of the things that hopefully someone has told you is that children should actually speak with respect.”

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, and Cruz took full advantage of the moment. “Imagine what a different world it would be if someone had told Donald Trump that years ago.”

Cruz also added “You know, in my household, when a child behaves that way, they get a spanking. And you know, that really comes down to who we are as a people.”

Ignoring Cruz’s dig at his primary opponent, Donald Trump, you would guess that this little dustup would be exactly the kind of thing the media would trumpet on Monday… and you’d be right. However, what was surprising was the focus of the media’s attention on Monday. They weren’t shocked at the surprising uncouth young man — they weren’t tickled by Cruz’s ability to turn the attack against a belligerent Donald Trump — they were angry at Cruz for supporting corporal punishment.

It may be a sign of the times, but I’d also expect that the media’s upset at Cruz and the young man’s decision to make a fool of himself are actually connected. The very concerns that Cruz cited in his response to the foolhardy young man are the very same issues created by liberal attitudes towards child rearing in America today… because parents choose not to discipline their children, because parents choose to allow their kids wide latitude in the ways in which they speak and act, because parents want to be “friends” with their kids and teaching them how to behave civilly in society would put a crimp in their “relationship.”

If you want to understand all of the ills that today trouble our society, this is where you should begin, with the breakdown of the family unit and the liberal, amoral/immoral culture that celebrates that failure while decrying any attempt at restoring order to our most important system of government. The family.

Ted Cruz is right. The media, this unruly child, and his failed parents are all wrong.
