American patriots…a vanishing breed?

Today, a varied view of American patriots and patriotism.  Are there still some patriots that love the flag, the National Anthem, and just about everything for which they stand?  Let’s check out some recent happenings and you can decide for yourself.

As a guest on a business show, Ben Stein said, on October 21, that the NFL players that decided to take a knee during the National Anthem, or when the flag is presented, that “these guys are a bunch of sulking big babies,” Stein said. “They don’t know what they’re talking about. There’s no institutional racism at all in America anymore. If they want to do their free speech thing, God bless them. Let them do their free speech thing. But let’s ignore them from then on. Let’s just ignore them like they’re bad babies and we don’t want to hear them crying off in the corner … yes, there’s racism in every human being’s heart. There’s no institutional racism in America anymore. It’s gone.”

As reported in Army Times about a week ago, retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer James Hatch testified in the matter of Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, and how the rest of the troops were affected by the desertion of Bergdahl.  In particular, Hatch was moved to tears when he talked about the death of his service dog.  In civilian life many of us have had dogs that were truly part of our families, but when you and your dog are in a life-and-death situation, the bond that was strong becomes ten times as strong…and the loss of your canine trooper can be a life-shattering event.  Bergdahl left his post and went over to the enemy and subsequently spent five years with them…doing what, we don’t truly know.  Obviously, patriotism was not uppermost in his mind when he did that.

There is an old saying that “Politics makes strange bedfellows” and that couldn’t be truer than in this instance, where people that we know, and believe, are straight-up American patriots, are acting in a manner that confuses a lot of Americans…and I’m one of them.   There is something called NCRI or the  National Council of Resistance of Iran, and from the name you would think that they are against the regime currently holding power in Iran, right?  Maybe…just maybe, that might be further from the truth than we know.   A few years back, some Americans met with this group.  Some names that are well-known are Major General Paul E.Vallely, US Army (Ret.), former Ambassador to the UN John Bolton, former New York City Mayor Rudi Giuliani, former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich and several others…a pretty impressive group, right?  Now, what were they doing there?   NCRI is an offshoot of the MEK, (Mujahidin Khalq) organization, a devout Islamist-Marxist entity known for their ISIS style terrorism.  They are responsible for numerous killings of Iranians and even murdering and abusing members of their own group.   At one point, the US State Department labelled the MEK as cutting a “swath of terror” across the country in the following years and of “violent attacks in Iran that victimize civilians.”   Should Americans, claiming to be patriots, be doing this?

Do you know who Cam Newton is?  I didn’t, until I read about him.  Apparently he’s a legend, in his own mind.   During a news interview in 2016, he famously said, that racism doesn’t exist in his America, and that we should all be, “beyond that.”  Now, the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, is singing a different tune.  He now says, , “My hat goes off to the Colin Kaepernicks of the world. He’s made the ultimate sacrifice (as a player) and I respect that wholeheartedly. I can’t let a moment go by without shedding light to that: A person that does have the talent to play, a person that should be in this league, but I feel as if he’s not getting his just due because of his views.”   Quite the contrary, Cam, K-nick is getting exactly his just due…the majority of Americans have made their opinions quite clear, and the empty seats at games, the burning of football jerseys, the boycott of watching it on TV…that’s all due to the public’s patriotism.  Apparently, Newton changes sides with whichever way the wind blows.  It’s no surprise then that Newton thought about his contract, his endorsements and the very real possibility that it could all go away, and decided to play both sides of the “discussion”.

Parting shot: America is a diverse nation…and we like to think of ourselves as a “great melting pot” where the people come from all over the world, settle here and become assimilated.  It doesn’t always work that way, folks.  Thanks to the liberals’ attempt to create a more diverse America, Muslims have been gaining political power all across the country. People are failing to recognize the dangers of allowing Islamic followers to create laws in our country. Their end goal is to implement Sharia Law, but before they can accomplish that goal, they need to have the numbers here in our country to do so.  New Jersey has been slowly transforming into a Muslim paradise.  Sanctuary cities are illegal in the U.S., but that hasn’t stopped Mayor Mohamed T. Khairullah, of Prospect Park, from signing an executive order declaring the borough a sanctuary for illegal immigrants and Muslims.  Very sad.
