The Alabama legislature has passed a bill that would make it a felony to impose of radical gender altering medical procedures on kids.
The bill would ban the use of puberty blockers or gender transition hormones to individuals younger than 19. It would also ban gender reassignment surgeries on kids.
The bill would also prevent teachers from hiding information about kids who claim they want to become transgender, the Associated Press reported.
“It’s about protecting these minors. It’s not about adults. Their minds are not fully developed to make these decisions on these medications and surgeries,” said bill sponsor, Republican Rep. Wes Allen of Troy.
At the same time, the legislature also approved a bill that would require kids to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their birth gender.
Both pieces of legislation are now going to the desk of Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey to be signed into law.
Naturally, the leftists are furious. Rep. Neil Rafferty, the only openly gay member of the Alabama Legislature, blasted the laws.
“This is wrong,” Rafferty said. “Y’all sit there and campaign on family being the foundation of our nation … but what this bill is doing is totally undermining that. It’s totally undermining family rights, health rights and access to health care.”
Radical gender reassignment is NOT healthcare, Mr. Rafferty.
