Nearly three quarters of the county sheriffs in the state of Illinois are vowing not to enforce the Democrats’ new “assault weapons” ban law that affect a newly drawn up list of rifles and handguns.
The new law signed by the rotund billionaire Gov. JB Pritzker was signed into law on Jan. 11.
The new law bans a long list of semiautomatic firearms as well as “rapid-fire devices” and extended ammunition magazines with more than 10 rounds. The law does not include confiscation of existing guns, but the state’s 2.4 million gun owners will have to register their ownership with the State Police Dept.
Further, the guns on the list will no longer be sold in the state.
But just as quickly as the bill was signed into law, 74 county sheriffs announced that they would refuse to enforce the ban.
In response, Pritzker vowed to make sure any member of law enforcement who won’t enforce the new ban will lose their job, ABC News reported.
Jim Kaitschuk, executive director of the Illinois Sheriffs Association, sent a letter to all 102 of the state’s county sheriffs and three quarters of them either endorsed it outright, or used it as the basis for their own statement.
DuPage County sheriff James Mendrick, who serves in the Chicago collar county, said he would not hold anyone charged with non-compliance with the law.
“Therefore, as the custodian of the jail and chief law enforcement official for DuPage County, that neither myself nor my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State, nor will we be arresting or housing law abiding individuals that have been charged solely with non-compliance of this Ac,” Mendrick wrote.
The website Mom-At-Arms has collected a large number of these statements from Illinois sheriffs for people to see.
The nullification of parts of this gun ban is well under way. Let’s see what the Democrats do to punish these many county sheriffs.
