"It little matters whether the risk of criminal victimization is one in a hundred or one in [a] million, for the statistical risk of victimization provides neither the necessity nor the moral or legal justification for carrying arms. Your life is worth protecting at all time and places, not just occasionally or in the home. Besides, as Jeff Cooper, the nation's leading firearms instructor, has noted, 'statistics are cold comfort when you discover that your case is the rare exception.'

We must carry arms. Not because we are frightened of crime. Not because it is an unfortunate necessity of modern life. We must carry arms because we value our lives and those of our loved ones, because we will not be dealt with by force or threat of force, and do not live at the pleasure and discretion of the lawless.

Failing that, and while we wait for laws to restrain men, we will be condemned to wonder why criminals have no respect for our lives, when we ourselves do not value our lives enough to assume the responsibility to defend them. For surely as long as we do not hold our lives worth fighting for, we hold God's great gift - life - in contempt, and God Himself will not save us."
