Unite for Freedom

I enlisted in the US Army June25,1969 as a Medic Honorably  discharged By the Grace of God and thanks to the US Army   in Jan.1977.I chose to be a Protestant when the choices were we were

Protestant ,Catholic, Jew, or nothing at all. Like too many American Christians I knew I was not a

Catholic, nor a Jew, I knew I believed there is a God and didn't want to go to Hell -but didn't know because I never read my Bible. I enlisted as a man who had cursed the church that gave me my first  understanding of the Bible For I had been told by a Deacon that I had the Mark of the Beast on my forehead. I strove to be the reflection of what I had heard of soldiers. Hard working, Patriotic, and able to drink my share of booze and fight my way back from any encounter. I distrusted the Bible thumpers. I was given the name StonyBurk because I was kinda like that old Jack Lord  character. I was also known as Preacher--cause I preached the doctrine we ought not fight amongst ourselves.Unless assaulted. In Panama I had a demonic visitor one night on the third floor of the Army Barracks  at Ft.Gulick,C.Z. The visitor was not afraid of me and had come for my soul.I'd barely miss it. I was more terrified than I have ever been  and retreated to the only thing I remembered from my days as a hormonal milk Christian I spoke In the name of Jesus Christ I command you leave and Never come back. --and my visitor was gone as quickly as he had appeared.  I bought a Bible I still have-and use on occasion-the next day as soon as the Base Exchange opened. I am diagnosed by the US Army -and by the VA as bi-polar, with seizure disorder- and something the VA calls a personality defect. I have two years of Liberal Arts college no degree 1/2 credit hour short in math for an AA. I have two years Bible college-they went belly up and I chose to stay here in this Valley with my wife.  We have three children(the youngest born while I was studying to be a Preacher.) My son was encouraged by national public school policy in high school  to "try it" the homosexual life--and "decide for himself" only after he had done that were we brought in His sisters were not encouraged nor protected-they dropped out and turned to drugs.I now have my son and his "friend " dying from HIV/AIDS. Both my daughters, their husbands, and three grandchildren living in a home that fit us when our three children were in public school. But God is GOD-and He provides. And I am so thankful I am not God.I pray for those in uniform -and for their families-and for this nation established a Christian nation. The Army trained us to consider the foundations-the writings and Commands given by men like Washington. And I could not fully appreciate our fundamental laws-- until I had read--and reread some of the sermons they had listened to in the dark ages before MTV-and ipod.

I fully recommend Joseph Story :A Familliar Exposition of the Constitution of the United States Regnery gateway 1997 from the 1859 original. and Under God:George Washington and the issue of church and State. by Joseph C. Smith and Tara Ross. And the two Vol set Political Sermons of the american Founding era 1730-1805 Ellis Sandoz editor.-John Eidsmoe Christianity and the Constitution,Baker Books ppb1995  ; and The Patriots Handbook ,George

Grant PhD. editor; America's God and Country Encyclopedia of quotations by Wm J Federer, Amerisearch 2000 these are a good start But always read the Bible for in it we have the standard for how we ought live.

Excellent Testimony Brother and as the son of a Vietnam Veteran(AIr Force Air Cav), I appreciate it even more...

Life is made of unsteady ground, but there is one rock amongst the soil that is tried and true and immovable, and that is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and come what may, whether it be tempest, quake or tsunami, on that rock we shall stand, but not by our own strength...

Joseph Story is a remarkable character, and unfortunately , one that is ignored.  An Excellent read for you if you have not already would be Christianity in the United Staes by Daniel Dorchester.  Remarkable read!   Bill Federer did a great work with his encyclopedia and I had the opportunity to speak with him as we used some of his material to produce a bible for our soldiers that is scheduled to be published very soon.

Nice to meet you brother and God bless you in the days to come.

Sincerely,

John
